Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of an age-friendly walking environment including stairs and slopes on the relationship between subjective health on depression in poor and non-poor elderly people. To this end, a hierarchical regression analysis was conducted on 1,836 elderly people aged 65 or oleder using data from the ¡®2020 Seoul Elderly Survey on Living Conditions¡¯. The results can be summarized as follows: 1) it was found that the elderly perceived their health negatively regardless of poverty, 2) the age-friendly walking environment moderated the effect of subjective health on depression in the case of the poor elderly, 3) the moderating effect of the walking environment was not significant in the relationship between subjective health status and depression in the case of the non-poor elderly. This suggests that the moderating effect of the age-friendly walking environment on the subjective health status and depression of the elderly differs depending on the individual¡¯s economic status. Based on these results, policy and practical interventions related to the intersecting effects of the physical and mental health of the elderly and an age-friendly walking environment were suggested.
